The Families

The name "PIASECKI" originates from the polish word "PIASEK" or "SAND" ....It could pertain to one who lived in an area where sand was mined or one who dealt in the mining and sale of sand for mortar or concrete.

Joseph Piasecki- 1851 to 1892
Joseph Piasecki was born in Szubin, Kreis Schubin, Posen, Prussian Poland to Peter Piasecki and Magdalena Palicki on February 28, 1851.

We were unable to find a record of Joseph’s Naturalization or any record of emigration. It would make sence to presume that he accompanied his brothers Theophilum and Adelbert from Hamburg to New York arriving March 25, 1876. He would have been 25 years old.

On June 9, 1879 he married Salomea Niezgodski, daugher of Paul Niezgodski and Antonia Siuchninski. She was born on October 22, 1854 in Szubin. Joseph was 28, Salomea was 24. The marriage was wittnessed by Theophile Piasecki and Maria Niezgodski.

They took up residence at 420 N. Walnut in South Bend, IN.

Over the next 14 years they had 5 children. Frank, Harriet, Helena, Bronislaw and Joseph John.

Oral History from Georgette Womack: All my mom remembers about Salomea was that she was crippled with arthritis and Joseph John took care of her until she died.

Joseph passed away on September 3, 1892 in South Bend, IN. He was 41 years old. He was laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetary.
