The Families

Gregory Janowiak- 1859 to 1931
Gregory Janowiak was born March 8, 1859 near Wagrowiec, Posen, Prussian Poland.

We believe they were farmers by trade but have not been able to verify this with church or civil records from the area as of yet

Gregory married Marianne Skibinski sometime around 1886 near Wagrowiec.

Marianne was a widow, her first husband being Joseph Drzewiecki who had perished in the Franko-Prussian War or died in a buggy accident in Posen. She had had two sons by this marriage, Stephen and Frank.

They stayed near Wagrowiec for about five years having three children. Michael, John and Konstancya.

The family immigrated to the United States about March 15, 1891 from Bremen to Baltimore MD arriving March 25, 1891 on the SS Karlsruhe.

The ships manifest describes the family as:

The family settled in South Bend, IN where, over the next 14 years they had five more children. Stanley, Hattie, Leo, Vincent and Hellen.

The 1900 Census states that Gregory worked as a “Truck Man”, Marianne had had 10 children, but that only 8 were living and that she could not speak English.

Gregory passed away on March 11, 1931 at 6:50 pm at his home at 217 N. Pagin Street in South Bend, IN. His obituary states due to paralysis after a five day illness. Services were held in St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Rev. B. J. Sztuczko officiating. He was baried in St. Joseph’s cemetery.

Konstance Janowiak Piechorowski Piasecki- 1890 to 1936
Konstancya Janowiak was born to Gregory Janowiak and Marianne Skibinski on February 15, 1890 near Wagrowiec, Posen, Prussian Poland.

She immigrated with the family to the United States about March 15, 1891 from Bremen to Baltimore MD arriving March 25, 1891 on the SS Karlsruhe. At the time, she was 11 months old.

Konstancya was nicknamed "Gustie" because she was always talking.

On July 13, 1909, at the age of 19, she married Leon Piechorowski, Son of Jan Piechorowski and Emelia Chmielewski, in St. Adalberts Roman Cathlic Church. The marriage was witnessed by John Janowiak and Frances Piechorowski.

Leon and Konstancya took up residence at 427 South Jackson in South Bend, IN.

Over the next 11 years they had six children. Sophie, Harriet, Irene, Frank A, Eleanore and Clarie

Leon passed away on September 16, 1920 when Konstancya was 30 years old.

.Four years later, on November 24, 1924, she remarried to Joseph John Piasecki

They settled down in the same house on 427 South Jackson.

Over the next four years they had four more children. Virgina Mae, Josephine Constance, Esther and Betty Lou.

Konstancya passed away on December 04, 1936. She was burried in St. Josephs Cemetary. She was 46 years old.
