The Families

To understand where we are, we must understand where we have been.

Many of the early Polish immigrants came chiefly from the conquered section of Poland under Prussian control. Selling what possessions they had, they risked everything to come to a foreign land in search of better times.

Our ancestors came here over 120 years ago. If family members of more than one or two generations past did not keep any type of oral history tradition then the best we can hope for is to learn as much as we can about where they came from and what their world was like. This can give us insight into what would cause a whole family to immigrate to the other side of the world.

In the year 1882, when our family came to this country, there was not a “Poland” in the world. In 1796, Poland was dismembered by three aggressor nations, the German Empire, the Austrian Empire and Russia. Our homeland did not exist on the maps of Europe for 125 years.
